The Fairfax County Police Department has announced the creation of a webpage designed to help Cold Case Squad detectives bring justice to the victims of unresolved homicides in Fairfax County. The Cold Case Squad, founded in 1995, falls under the Major Crimes Bureau of FCPD. The squad is responsible for the investigations of unresolved homicides and unsolved sex crimes in Fairfax County.
Detectives continue to review the files of these unclosed cases in order to provide details of cold cases spanning six decades in the hopes that someone will come forward with information leading to an arrest or furtherance of a case. As detectives proceed through their review process of cases, these lists will be updated.
Cold Case Squad detectives have announced that they would like to hear from people who may have any information, no matter how small, that could help them identify the people responsible for these crimes and seek closure for the victims involved in these important cases.
“We are committing countless hours and all available resources to close these cases and provide long-awaited answers to victims’ families, and bring those who committed these awful crimes to justice,” said Major Ed O’Carroll, Bureau Commander, Major Crimes.
Anyone with information regarding any of these cold cases is asked to contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 8. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477), by text to 847411 (type FCCS then the tip), or online by clicking here. Citizens may also download the Fairfax County Crime Solvers mobile app here. This app uses tip411, an internet-based tool from Citizen Observer that enables the public to text message an anonymous tip to police and lets the offers respond back, creating an anonymous two-way conversation. The app’s technology removes all identifying information before police see it, with no way to identify the sender. Anonymous tipsters are eligible for cash rewards of $100 to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest.
