Absentee voting
Early voting in Fairfax County began on Sept. 18, and there are three ways to return completed absentee ballots:
- Drop-boxes at the early voting locations. During the dates and times that the early voting locations are open, you can return your completed absentee ballot at any location. Voters may go to a location without waiting in any lines of people who are early voting in person. There is also a drop-off box outside the Fairfax County Government Center that’s open 24 hours a day, and is available right now.
- Polling places on election day. On Election Day, Nov. 3, you can return your absentee ballot at any polling place/precinct from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. when they are open.
- By mail. You can return your ballot by mail. Allow ample time for your ballot to reach our office, so please take this into consideration to apply for and mail your absentee ballot back. All ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3.
You may drop off your completed mailed absentee ballot to locations when they are open for early voting. Ballot drop-off boxes are located outside the voting room.
Curbside voting is available at every early voting location for people who age 65 or older or with a physical disability. Curbside voting doesn’t put you at the front of the line, and voters should expect to wait.
Early voting in person
The last day to vote early is Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5:00 p.m. Both the early voting and absentee ballots received are counted on election night in the Central Absentee Precinct (CAP) and your vote is included with the absentee reported results.
