To provide capacity relief to McLean High School, a modular unit with 12 classrooms and restroom facilities has been placed at the school and will be ready to move into in late December. It is replacing trailers that were being used at the school.
With regard to the topic of boundary adjustment, in order to determine the best course of action moving forward with this option, a community meeting will be held on December 7 at 6:30 p.m. The invitation for this virtual meeting went out today via email and text message issued from the Assistant Superintendent’s offices for families in the McLean and Langley HS pyramids.
The next step in the boundary adjustment process is to hold a virtual boundary study meeting, where FCPS staff will present information and provide options for the community to consider. After the presentation, community members will work in virtual breakout rooms to share feedback on those options. The feedback will be collected and shared with the School Board.
This meeting will be a follow-up to the meetings that were held in early December 2019. Helpful comments from the community were received, and posted online. In response to this feedback, the FCSB approved expanding the boundary scope to include the boundaries for Longfellow Middle School and Cooper Middle School as well as McLean High School and Langley High School. If the School Board moves forward with a boundary adjustment, the plan will be for students affected by any change to move from their elementary school to Cooper and then to Langley or to Longfellow and then to McLean.

With regard to capacity enhancements. a group comprised of members of the McLean Citizen’s Association, John Foust’s staff, FCPS Facilities staff, and Providence district staff are convening to enhance data analysis for Tyson’s area development and the impact on schools. In addition, the Joint CIP Work Group, with representatives from the Board of Supervisors and the school board, met November 18, 2020 to consider capacity improvements
