Dr. Michelle Reid, the incoming superintendent of FCPS, is visiting the school system’s administrative center next week to learn more about the County’s schools and community. During her visit, there will be an in-person event for staff, families, and students on Tuesday, May 3, starting at 7 p.m. More details, including how to register and submit questions, will be shared with students and their families directly via email in the coming days. Other language interpreters will be available upon request during the registration process. A sign-language interpreter will also be supporting the event.
On Tuesday, May 17, Dr. Reid, who has been chosen to replace Dr. Scott Brabrand as Superintendent, will join staff, families, and students for a multilingual virtual town hall, starting at 7 p.m. Details about this event will be released next week.
According to reports in the local press, Dr. Reid’s appointment has been not without controversy. A number of County residents have expressed their concerns with Dr. Reid’s experience based on her previous post at the Northshore School District in Washington state, given the significant differences between the size of that school system and FCPS. Concerns with the alleged lack of transparency in the search and decision process have been reported as well.
Dr. Reid will be hosting additional engagement sessions throughout the county after her official start date this summer.
