Capital One Bank announces Great Falls branch closing
Capital One Bank, Great Falls branch

On February 18, Capital One Bank announced to its Great Falls customers that on May 20, 2020, the Great Falls branch at 9883 Georgetown Pike will close for good. The announcement makes several references to the bank’s mobile and online banking services, which may be a clue to a business model for future growth that relies more on digital tools for traditional banking transactions than on bricks-and-mortal locations.

The announcement provides a list of nearby branch offices that remain open, the nearest ones to the Village being the branches at Sterling Town Center and Spectrum Drive in Reston. There was no mention of whether a Capital One Bank ATM will be placed anywhere in Great Falls, for those customers who still like to get cash from their accounts, or check balances and make deposits without using their mobile devices or computers.

The branch closure announcement also advises those bank customers who have items in a safe deposit box at the branch to stop by and empty those boxes before April 24. The bank also recommends that customers sign in to their account online to make sure the email address they have on file is the correct one.
