At this time, all park amenities are closed. These closures are total and include tennis courts, basketball courts, dog parks, garden plots, volleyball courts, fishing and boat ramps, skate parks, all playgrounds, and more. The Park Authority has stated that the use of these amenities does not allow for adequate social distancing and draws too many people together.

Closing the parks was made in response to Governor Northam’s orders #53 and #55, as well as in response to the increased park usage that had made it nearly impossible for park visitors to maintain adequate separation. The County says it will continue to monitor the situation daily, and parks and amenities will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. 

All Park Authority trails are open for local use. Residents are encouraged to use trails close to their homes because parking lots are closed to discourage non-essential travel. There are more than 330 miles of trails in Fairfax County, and 90% of all Fairfax County residents live within a half mile of parkland. Trail hours are dawn to dusk.
