On November 23 the Harvard Gazette reported that a senior and recent alum were named George J. Mitchell Scholars. One of these two is Great Falls resident Kiran Hampton, who will begin graduate studies at Queen’s University Belfast in September for the 2021-2022 academic year. Media sources have reported that Mr. Hampton was chosen from a national applicant pool of 453, the most ever in the scholarship’s history.

Mr. Hampton plans to study economics, saying that “this is an important way in which we help others,” adding that his academic interests include an emphasis on financial and labor regulations, and labor law. Future plans include returning to Cambridge to study at Harvard Law School, where he has already been admitted.

Kiran Hampton has amassed an impressive profile of achievement. A recent Harvard graduate with High Honors in History and Literature, he was for two years President of Harvard Radio Broadcasting, a commercial FM station with a large listener share in the Greater Boston area, and was a Harvard Crimson Editorial Board Editor. Mr. Hampton interned for the Democratic Caucus of the Virginia House of Representatives and was a ghostwriter and speechwriter for a Democratic candidate for Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney. Mr. Hampton is currently working with the Fairfax County NAACP, supporting educational priorities and justice initiatives.
