At its March 9 meeting, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the lease of 22 County-owned properties to Sigora Solar, LLC  for the design, installation, operation and maintenance of rooftop solar photovoltaic panels for on-site electric generation. Included in the list of sites are Great Falls Volunteer Fire Station in the village and Wolf Trap Fire Station #42 at the corner of Route 7 and Beulah Road.

The contract with Sigora, a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) service provider, allows Fairfax County to purchase on-site renewable energy with little or no upfront or operational costs and is expected to reduce the County’s greenhouse gas emissions and electricity costs.

This latest approval is part of a phased approach to solar installations at facilities owned by the Fairfax County Government, Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax County Park Authority, and Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (collectively, the “Fairfax Entities”). 

Leases with Sigora were approved for the first tranche of facilities in fall of 2020. In total, there are 247 possible projects to be installed across Fairfax County in two phases.
