The Great Falls Garden Club, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, maintains two gardens at the Great Falls Library plus an additional one, The Blue Star Memorial Garden, at the Village Center. One of the library gardens lines the walkway along the building’s path while the other is the meadow facing Georgetown Pike. Beyond their aesthetics, these gardens when in bloom serve to attract many pollinators.
To further the idea of planting gardens for pollinators like birds, bees and butterflies, the Garden Club hopes to encourage young people to learn how to create these kinds of spaces. As a part of its 80th anniversary celebration, the club is offering a $150 grant to one local student to create their own pollinator garden. The grant recipient will be announced in May 2022 from among applicants between the ages of 9 – 14 who live in the 20066 Zip code.
